Our History

The Saint John Construction Association (SJCA), founded in 1886, is Canada’s oldest construction association and a proud voice for contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers in the Saint John region and beyond.

We advocate for the construction industry at all levels, representing unionized contractors across sectors such as heavy engineering, industrial, institutional, and residential. Through leadership, collaboration, and expertise, we support growth, innovation, and strong labour relations.

Our focus includes negotiating collective agreements, promoting best practices, and building long-lasting infrastructure that drives economic growth across New Brunswick.

Where Our Story Took Shape

Our Home

The SJCA’s office, located at 263 Germain Street, has a rich history itself. Originally built in 1932 as the First Church of Christ, Scientist, the building is a fine example of Second Renaissance Revival architecture. It became a designated Local Historical Place in 1982.

In 1983, the Saint John Construction Association purchased the property and transformed it into its headquarters, which is now known as Construction House. The Association continues to build on its longstanding legacy while driving the future of construction in the region.
